Episode 3 · 5 min · After Marlon got accepted in the barangay basketball clinic,...

Tulad ni JP, your child can give up on their interests all of a sudden and out of the blue. As parents, kailangan mong malaman at intindihin ang tunay na pinanggagalingan ng iyong anak para malaman whether to encourage them to keep at it or to support their decision to quit.

Narito ang limang dahilan kids suddenly quit. Hopefully, matulungan nito magabayan ka when you deal with a similar situation with your child.

Hindi na siya interesado sa activity

Your child needs to explore different things to find their passion. Natural sa process of exploring na malaman niyang hindi pala niya gusto ang isang bagay while in the middle of doing the activity.

Pagod o burnt out ang iyong anak

Baka masyadong marami ang load ng iyong anak, kaya kahit gusto niya ang activity ay wala na siyang energy for it. Take other things off their schedule or encourage them to take a break.

May hindi siya kasundo sa team o class

Kung may issue ang iyong anak sa isang teammate, kaklase, o coach, take this as a teachable moment. If may misunderstanding with the coach, maari mong samahan ang iyong anak para kausapin siya. If sa teammate naman ang problema, your approach would depend sa edad ng mga bata. If they’re young, ikaw na mismo ang kumausap sa coach or magulang ng batang involved. Pero if malalaki na sila, puwede mo ring i-guide ang iyong anak on how to deal with person.

Pressured ang bata to live up to your expectations

Every parent wants their child to achieve greatness. Pero when you always emphasize winning, posibleng ma-overwhelm ang iyong anak. Sa huli, hindi na fun or fulfilling ang activity o sport.

Takot ang iyong anak sa failure

Alam na ng mga adults na failure and disappointments are part of life. Pero hindi ito madali para sa mga bata. Your child will need to learn how to deal with these and kakailanganin ka nila to guide them in processing and overcoming these feelings.

There is a time when quitting is the right thing to do. Halimbawa, kung hindi na talaga interesado ang iyong anak sa isang activity, then let them shift gears. May time din na the right thing to do is to not give up — and knowing the difference is one of the best gifts you can give your children.

When kids quit because they are discouraged or are afraid to fail — like JP in the web series — ito ang oras for parents to teach them the value of grit and determination.

Marami tayong pinagdadaanang pagsubok sa buhay, at kailangang ma-realize ng mga bata ito, with your help. Teach them how to sit with discomfort and work through it, dahil kailangan nila ito to succeed in life.

Success isn’t always won by the naturally smart and talented, lalo na kung tumba sila agad sa kaunting haplos ng hirap. Sa totoong buhay, ang taong may grit and determination to endure hardships ang tunay na nagiging champions in life.
